GWM Tank 500 HEV holds the status as the most expensive Chinese car in Indonesia with a price tag of nearly Rp 1.2 billion. This rugged SUV with a hybrid engine has been available in Indonesia since March 2024 alongside its sibling, the Haval H6 HEV. How well have these two vehicles been selling?
Hari Arifianto, the Marketing Director of PT Inchcape Indomobil Energi Baru (IIEB), which sells GWM (Great Wall Motor) products in Indonesia, explained that there are no exact sales figures that can be announced at the moment. However, based on the sales results at the BCA Expoversary 2024 event (February-March), the sales figure has reached 50 units.
“I can’t share the official numbers yet. We are currently applying for membership with Gaikindo. So, hopefully, we can see the official numbers that have been submitted. We just launched on March 21st. So, it’s still not that many because the stock is gradually coming to Indonesia,” said Hari.
“The sales range up to now must be above 50 units. The composition is still mostly the Tank 500 HEV compared to the Haval H6 HEV, with a percentage of 80-20%,” continued Hari.
GWM Tank 500 HEV is offered in various interior colors such as Sun Black, COC Grey, Hamilton White. The price of GWM Tank 500 HEV is Rp 1,196,000,000 (OTR Jakarta), while GWM Haval H6 HEV is available in colors like Ayers Grey, Hamilton White, Sun Black, with a price tag of Rp 595,800,000 (OTR Jakarta).
According to Hari, GWM Tank 500 HEV is more popular than the Haval H6 HEV because of its unique product positioning and rugged American-style SUV design.
“Because it’s a ladder frame SUV, gasoline, hybrid, turbo, and functionally can act like an SUV with front and rear wheel lock. It’s unique. So, this is what makes the Tank 500 HEV accepted. Visually, it also suits the SUVs preferred by consumers in Indonesia,” said Hari.
