Xiaomi Will Officially Release Their First EV at December 28th 2023

Xiaomi has finally confirmed that it will officially release its first electric car on December 28 2023. The launch will be followed by important information regarding the car’s specifications.

This confirmation was obtained based on information circulated by Xiaomi via their official page on Weibo. Quoted by Autopro, this Tuesday (26/12/2023), according to this information, Xiaomi will hold a special event called Xiaomi EV Technology Launch.

“This step will be a turning point for Xiaomi’s transformation from a leading cellphone manufacturer to a future electric car manufacturer,” said Autopro.

The specifications of electric cars made by Xiaomi have become a big question mark lately. The reason is that this is the only part that many people still don’t know about.

Before the official launch, the exterior and interior design of the electric car codenamed Xiaomi SU7 was widely circulated in cyberspace.

Previously, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, revealed several fears about selling electric cars. In an interview with CCTV, last Thursday (21/12/2023), he said he had several concerns about selling their first electric car, the Xiaomi SU7.

He explained that the costs of producing electric cars are very large compared to making electronic equipment. In fact, it is very large compared to the cost of making a conventional car.

He admitted that he had invested 10 billion Yuan or around Rp. 21.7 trillion. He has also recruited 3,400 people so that Xiaomi can make electric cars. The massive investment is focused on a Xiaomi electric car factory in Shenzhen, China.

“What I’m worried about is that the car is not popular and no one wants to buy it,” he said seriously.

Lei Jun further admitted that production problems were also a big concern. The very long waiting time for car production and distribution will be detrimental for Xiaomi.

Not only as an electric car manufacturer but also the image of an electronics company that already has a big name.

“I’m worried that if consumers have to wait a year for their cars, our reputation will be hurt,” he said worriedly.

Even though he has big concerns, Lei Jun, quoted by the South China Morning Post, admitted that he was very enthusiastic about selling electric cars. He even believes that Xiaomi’s electric car can compete with Tesla.
