The Wuling Air ev electric car feels cheap compared to other electric cars marketed in Indonesia. Based on the official Wuling website, currently the Wuling Air ev comes in three variants with a price range of IDR 206 million to IDR 299.5 million.
This price is very attractive considering that other electric cars range in price from IDR 500 million to more than IDR 1 billion. It’s just that according to Patrick Adhiatmadja, Deputy General Chair for Technical Affairs of the Electric Car Ecosystem Association (AEML), this happened because the Wuling Air ev is in a category that does not exist in the Indonesian automotive market.
Wuling Air ev has no comparison with conventional cars with internal combustion engines or Internal Combustion Engines (ICE). As a result, people cannot compare it with conventional cars but with other electric cars.
“Wuling has succeeded in entering a category that does not exist in the ICE category. They are available as a small electric car with a price of IDR 200 million,” he explained when he was a resource person at the iNews.id Editor Forum, Wednesday (13/9/2023) yesterday.
According to Patrick Adhiatmadja, Wuling Air EV is actually included in the Personal Mobility Vehicle (PMV) category. The segment actually consists of various electric transportation suggestions in a compact form.
“Even though the price for personal mobility (Wuling Air ev-ed) is quite expensive,” explained Patrick Adhiatmadja.
It is known that currently various automotive companies in the world have developed PMV. For example, Toyota COMS and Renault Twizy. Both electric cars actually already exist in Indonesia. PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) has even made the Toyota COMS a free electric vehicle that can be used by tourists visiting Bali.
Meanwhile, the Renault Twizy is still marketed specifically by Prestige Renault Indonesia. It’s just that the price is still not officially announced.
