Vietnam’s National Car, Still Needs Time But Not a Myth

Cars made in Vietnam, VinFast still need time to be accepted by the people of Vietnam. It’s just that its existence is not magical because its presence is felt.

This was felt by MNC Portal Indonesia during a recent visit to Vietnam. In terms of numbers or population, cars made by VinFast are still inferior to cars made in Japan, the United States and Europe.

It’s just that its presence is really felt. When in two Vietnamese cities namely Hanoi and Lao Cai, VinFast cars are always visible. The cars made in Vietnam appear in various forms, such as the VinFast Fadil city car, the VinFast Lux A2.0 sedan, and the VinFast Lux SA2.0 SUV.

What’s more, there are VinFast cars that have been used for taxi fleets. Surprisingly, these taxis actually used an electric car made by VinFast, namely the VinFast VF e34.

So the existence of Vietnam’s national cars is really felt. Not unseen even though the number of sales is still very small.

“It still takes time for the Vietnamese people to choose VinFast. They are also very new because they are new,” said Chung, a tour guide who accompanied MNC Portal Indonesia while in Vietnam.

He said that currently many Vietnamese people still prefer cars made by Hyundai and Toyota. The reason, according to him, is that cars made by VinFast still have the same price as cars made in Japan, the United States and South Korea.

For example, VinFast Lux A2.0 is sold at 1.15 billion Dong or the equivalent of Rp. 729.7 million. The price is almost the same as the new Toyota Camry, which sells for 1.1 billion Dong or the equivalent of Rp. 698 billion.

“If it were much cheaper, it might be an attractive option,” he explained.

From there it was only natural that sales of VinFast cars continued to slide. The Investor reported that from Vietnam Automobile Manufacturer’s Association (VAMA) data, sales of VinFast cars in the first quarter of this year reached 5,487 units.

This achievement is still very far from Hyundai and Toyota, which are currently still very popular in Vietnam. Hyundai was reported to have sold 19,328 units and Toyota was in second place with sales of 17,813 units.

However, according to Chung, VinFast is already very proud. According to him, their cars have succeeded in side by side with foreign cars. Moreover, VinFast is also sold abroad.
