The Chinese car manufacturer, GAC, conducted a very unique crash test on their flagship luxury MPV car, the GAC Trumpchi M8. The Toyota Alphard competitor was directly hit by a truck with a carrying capacity of 8.6 tons.
From the video released by GAC, the crash test is even more interesting because it is simulated as if there were consecutive collisions. Even more exciting because the vehicle in front of the GAC Trumpchi M8 is also a large truck.
The crash test begins when an orange truck is run autonomously at high speed. The truck directly hit the back of the GAC Trumpchi M8 which was in a stationary position.
As a result of a very strong collision from behind, the GAC Trumpchi M8 inevitably hit the truck in front of it. As a result, the condition of the GAC Trumpchi M8 was wrecked at the front and rear.
From the video that was circulated, it is clear that when the collision occurred, the safety features of the luxury MPV GAC Trumpchi M8 immediately worked. Especially the airbag feature that protects passengers from collisions.
Even more surprising, the GAC Trumpchi M8 turned out to have an airbag or curtain type airbag. The airbag will inflate and cover the left and right side areas of the car body to prevent collisions from occurring to passengers.
Another part that is most interesting according to Wapcar is the body structure of the GAC Trumpchi M8 which is not completely dented even though it is beaten from the front and rear. The A pillars and B pillars of the car made in China are still the same as before.
“To the extent that the sliding doors are still functioning normally to see the condition of the dolls in the car,” said Wapcar.
It is known that the GAC Trumpchi M8 was made to match the popularity of the Toyota Alphard and Lexus LM. It’s just that the GAC Trumpchi M8 is much bigger than its competitors.
The dimensions (W x W x H) of the GMC Trumpchi M8 are known to be 5,212 mm x 1,893 mm x 1,823 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the Lexus LM are (L x W x H) 5,040 mm x 1,850 mm x 1,895 mm. So the Lexus LM only wins higher than the GAC M8.
Thanks to the large dimensions, the GAC M8 can fit a large 14.6-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital cluster screen. Apart from that, they are also unique transmission levers because they can glow according to the cabin color of the car owner’s choice.
Unfortunately, GAC did not announce detailed specifications for the GAC M8. Carscoops said GAC Trumphi M8 will be available in a choice of petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines. Interestingly, the GAC Trumpchi M8 hybrid will actually use the proven Toyota Hybrid System. The technology of this luxury MPV will be combined with a locally produced 2.0 liter engine.
