Subaru Indonesia is not careless in bringing electric cars to Indonesia. Chief Operation Officer (COO) Subaru Indonesia, Arie Christopher, told reporters, Thursday (23/11/2023) that there were three things that made them not introduce electric cars to the country.
According to him, the first thing to think about is whether the electric car will be well received by the Indonesian people. This public acceptance will later convince them to join in selling electric cars.
“Of course it will be very difficult if in the future electric cars are not accepted at all by the public,” he explained.
The second factor that needs to be considered is the issue of Subaru brand positioning in Indonesia. According to Arie Christopher, electric cars that want to be brought to Indonesia must certainly match Subaru’s brand positioning in Indonesia.
This needs to be done because every car presented in Indonesia has the same strategy. Of course, it would be very strange if suddenly the electric car brought by Subaru actually broke from the existing standard.
Lastly, Subaru wants every car they market to have a sustainable life cycle. Likewise with electric cars.
So they don’t want the electric car to be forced into Indonesia but suddenly its sales are forced to stop because it is not well received by the public.
“We don’t want sales to suddenly stop after they enter. Once they enter Indonesia there must be a life cycle,” explained Arie Christopher.
It is known in the global market that Subaru itself has the Subaru Solterra electric car. The electric car, which shares a platform with the Toyota bz4X, is sold for USD 44,995 or around Rp. 697.4 million.
