Indonesia automotive market now full of Chinese cars that more affrodable and have better technology. Among them, there’s Chery Omoda 5 GT which was just launched last week.
Chery Omoda 5 GT comes in two variants FWD and AWD. The FWD variant is sold at IDR 448.8 million and the AWD at IDR 488.8 million. This price is much more affordable than its closest competitor, the Honda HR-V, which is sold at IDR 529.9 million.
This price again proves that Chinese cars in Indonesia are sold at competitive prices compared to cars from other countries. Why did that happen?
Harry Kamora, Vice President of PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) revealed the reasons why brands from China can sell their products at affordable prices. According to him, manufacturers from China do not make big profits like other brands.
“(Other brands) just made too high a profit first. “In China, prices are actually like that, no trader wants to lose,” said Harry when met in Tangerang, Friday (29/9/2023).
For Chery, Harry Kamora emphasized that the prices offered for each product were in accordance with calculations. He emphasized that the company had reaped benefits from this price.
“If we look at the prices of China’s cheap cars, we look at China as a nation, as a nation, what is it about China that has expensive products? Nothing, but good quality. “That’s what we should learn,” he said.
As for why cars from China can be sold at cheap prices but have good quality, Harry Kamora explains the reasons. He explained that this was in the production and human resources departments.
“If chasing cost per unit is cheap, what’s the key? Volume, working hours, productivity. They (Chinese manufacturers) have it all. “One car can leave in just a few minutes,” he said.
