Tesla Cars Banned in China during Important Event

Chinese President Xi Jinping will open the FISU World University Games in Chengdu, Friday (28/7/2023). It turned out that Tesla cars were banned when Xi Jinping was present in the city.

In the opening ceremony, Indonesian President Jokowi is also scheduled to attend. No wonder the city of Chengdu is really a very important location.

This made the Chinese government feel the need to temporarily ban Tesla cars from circulation in Chengdu. Fortune said the ban was specifically enforced for Tesla cars that entered the area where the World University Game was being held.

This became known after a video banning Tesla cars circulated on China’s popular social media platform, Douyin. In the video, the police prohibit Tesla drivers from entering the area close to the World University Game.

“Security authorities in Chengdu also implemented strict regulations for traffic while the event lasted until August 8, 2023. Several roads were even closed to pedestrians,” said Fortune.

It is not known why Tesla cars were banned from entering or circulating in Chengdu. It’s just that the Chinese government has long banned electric cars made by Elon Musk from entering important facilities in China.

The sensors in the US electric car are worried that it will be misused for espionage. Elon Musk himself has clarified this allegation.

He said it would be very bad for the company to cooperate with a government to conduct espionage. It’s just that he asked that Tesla owners still understand the regulations applied by China.

“Whether it’s China or the United States, there are negative repercussions if commercial companies are really involved in espionage, it will be very bad,” said Elon Musk.
