Symbol of the Rich has Changed, No Longer Expensive Sedans but MPV Super-luxury

The symbol of rich people is no longer expensive sedans. Now it has turned into a super luxury MPV.

In Indonesia alone, many rich people are not seen driving expensive sedans such as the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class or Rolls-Royce anymore. Most of the ones seen are super-luxury MPVs such as the Lexus LM and its twin brother, the Toyota Alphard.

The same thing reported by Carsifu, Wednesday (20/12/2023) happened in the European region. Likewise, in China, the transition from expensive sedans to super-luxury MPVs occurred first.

Ferdinand Dudenhoffer, an automotive observer quoted by Carsifu, said that rich people are starting to realize that the performance of luxury sedans is not everything. Moreover, the fact is that roads in various capital cities in the world often experience traffic jams.

From there they realized they preferred a comfortable room and privacy rather than performance. “What is trending in Asia is now contagious in Europe,” he explained.

He sees this condition as a big opportunity for Asian car manufacturers. According to Ferdinand Dudenhoffer, car manufacturers in Asia have actually been very successful in making super-luxury MPVs.

This segment has not yet been given much attention by European car manufacturers. Currently, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen have large MPVs to accommodate large numbers of passengers. It’s just that the MPV cars they make can’t be said to be very luxurious.

This is different from Japanese and Chinese car manufacturers, which are increasingly daring to innovate. The Toyota Alphard and Lexus LM are now very popular and have become symbols of rich people in various countries in Asia.

In China there are even more choices. BYD has the Denza D9, GAX has the GN8 Master Edition, and Maxus offers the MIFA 9 which is no less luxurious than an MPV car made in Japan.

“All of these cars are equipped with luxurious cabins and very comfortable car seats. This cannot be matched by luxury sedans,” explained Ferdinand Dudenhoffer.

What’s more interesting is that in terms of price, super-luxury MPVs are still more affordable than expensive sedans. This gives owners of super-luxury MPVs the opportunity to customize their car cabin as they wish.
