Toyota Motor Corp has released a very special car, namely the Toyota Century SUV Convertible. This car is special because the Toyota Century SUV is the highest caste car in the entire range of cars made by Toyota.
Not to mention the fact that the car appears with an open roof style, which makes it different from the Toyota Century, which Toyota has started selling since 2023. This car is even more special because Toyota does not sell this car to the general public.
“Toyota once displayed a teaser image of this car at the launch of the Toyota Century SUV in September 2023. However, this car was apparently made open for sale to the public,” wrote Carscoops, Tuesday (16/1/2024).
The Toyota Century SUV with an open roof was actually presented to fulfill the request of Japanese sumo sports organizers. Later the car will be used by the national sumo champion in parades to the general public.
Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota, said that initially they wanted to make a parade car for the national sumo champion using a Toyota Crown sedan. It’s just that the choice was shifted to the Toyota Century because it was the most expensive car made by Toyota.
Toyota has actually made many interesting changes to the open-top Toyota Century car. Of course, they first trimmed the entire roof of the car to match the convertible style.
Apart from that, they also strengthened the suspension sector of the Toyota Century. The reason is that it is no longer a secret that the weight of sumo wrestlers in Japan is extremely heavy.
Not to mention the fact that the car will not only carry one sumo wrestler but two sumo wrestlers at once. Both of them will even sit on seats specially designed to support their body weight.
The rest of the Toyota Century with an open roof is the same as other Toyota Centuries. The car also still uses the same engine, namely the V6 PHEV.
Toyota did not announce how much it spent on modifying the car. What is certain is that currently the Toyota Century is being sold for 25 million Yen or the equivalent of IDR 2.65 billion.
