GAC Aion officially launched in Indonesia with the debut of the Aion Y Plus in Jakarta on Wednesday (June 19, 2024). CEO of GAC Aion Indonesia, Andry Ciu, emphasized that the arrival of the Aion Y Plus will significantly expand the electric car market in Indonesia. The design and technology offered are believed to be well-suited to the needs of the Indonesian public.
The Aion Y Plus features a unique and modern design, enhanced by a panoramic sunroof that adds a touch of luxury.
One of the key advantages of this electric car is its spacious interior, which makes it a strong competitor against the BYD Atto 3 and Chery Omoda E5. The front seats can be fully reclined, turning into a bed as wide as 1.8 meters.
On the exterior, a standout feature is the LED “Angel’s Wing” headlights with seven horizontal light blades. With a crossover style, this electric car still retains the characteristics of a mini MPV.
The Aion Y Plus comes in two variants: the Exclusive with a range of 410 kilometers priced at Rp 415 million on the road (OTR) Jakarta, and the Premium (490 kilometers) priced at Rp 475 million.
Meanwhile, President of AION South East Asia, Ocean Ma, stated that the company is very serious about expanding its market to Indonesia. Ocean Ma even has ambitions to make Indonesia one of the core assembly bases for GAC Aion cars in the ASEAN region.
“Consumers in Indonesia are rapidly shifting from conventional cars to electric cars, and GAC Aion wants to seize this moment. We are very confident with the consumer trends in Indonesia, combined with our product quality and international experience. With these three aspects, we are confident we can capture the market in Indonesia,” said Ocean Ma in Jakarta on Wednesday evening (June 19, 2024).
Furthermore, Ocean Ma explained why they chose Indonesia to expand their business. He mentioned that Indonesia has the potential to become a large electric car market.
“Indonesia has a very large population of about 270 million. Car purchase trends have also significantly increased. This is a crucial point for why we chose Indonesia. Secondly, the raw materials for making car batteries are also available in Indonesia, making this a key consideration. It’s not out of the question that battery production currently in China might be moved to Indonesia,” he added.
GAC Aion entered Indonesia through a joint venture with its partner, Indomobil Group. This collaboration aims to meet the demand for eco-friendly electric cars in Indonesia. GAC Aion plans to establish 30 business networks in Indonesia by 2024 and expand to 70 by 2025.
