Next year’s MG electric car will be assembled in Cikarang

Next year’s MG electric car will be assembled in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java. The green car with the MG logo will later be assembled at the SAIC Group factory facility which is also the production site for Wuling cars.

Arief Syarifudin, Marketing and PR Director of MG Motor Indonesia, said that the assembly was not only for electric cars but also for conventional cars. He said the production facility owned by SAIC Group could be utilized by MG Motor Indonesia because currently they are a subsidiary of SAIC Group.

“Since 2009 MG has been owned by SAIC Group. This condition allows us to take advantage of production facilities owned by SAIC Group in Cikarang which are already established,” said Arief Syarifudin, to journalists in the BSD City area, Tangerang, Wednesday (16/8/2023) This.

Not only utilizing production facilities, Arief Syarifudin said that MG in the future also wants to make Indonesia a research center. It is hoped that later from Indonesia there will be new MG cars which are not only suitable for the market in Indonesia but also in various other countries.

Especially for the assembly plant, Arief Syarifudin said that there was already a new production line specifically for MG cars, both electric and conventional. He said that from the factory, 100,000 units of MG cars will be assembled per year.

“The line itself does not use the Wuling production line,” said Arief Syarifudin.

It is known that currently MG Motor Indonesia already has two electric cars marketed in Indonesia, namely the MG 4 EV and MG ZS EV.

For conventional cars, MG Motor Indonesia has marketed various types of cars, such as the MG 5 GT sedan and SUVs such as the MG ZS and MG HS.

“Assembling will focus on 60 percent for electric cars, the rest will be used for conventional cars,” explained Arief Syarifudin.
