Next Year China’s NETA Electric Car Will be Assembled in Bekasi

NETA is getting serious about its presence in the Indonesian automotive market. Now they are officially working with local partners in the Bekasi area to assemble electric cars made by NETA.

In an official statement, NETA stated that it had made a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) on July 26, 2023.

The signing of the MoU was attended by key executives from the two companies. NETA was represented by Kong Fanlong, Vice President of NETA Auto, Zhou Jiang, Vice President of NETA Auto and Executive Vice President of NETA Overseas, and Wang Chengjie, Assistant President of NETA Auto and Vice President of NETA Overseas.

In the same place PT HIM was represented by Jongkie Sugiarto, Deputy Main Commissioner of PT HIM, Denny Siregar, President Director of PT HIM, and I.G.P Rampai Surya Budhi, Deputy Director of Auto Investa.

“We hope that the collaboration with PT HIM can realize our vision and mission to assist the Indonesian government in electrification. We believe Indonesia has great potential in receiving electric cars because it has proven effective for daily needs,” said Wang Chengjie.

While Denny Siregar said the collaboration occurred because NETA has a very strong background and is highly committed to providing affordable electric cars with high technology. In addition, PT HIM and NETA have the same vision and mission in supporting government programs to accelerate electrification.

“We are committed to facilitating product assembly (NETA-ed) for Indonesia,” said Denny Siregar.

“The signing of the MOU with PT HIM includes cooperation in vehicle assembly in the form and will begin in the second quarter of 2024. PT HIM was chosen to be a strategic local assembly partner because of its experience with full credibility and has been trusted by several other brands and the Indonesian people,” write the official statement of NETA Auto.

For your information, PT HIM is actually an established in the Indonesia’s manufacturing industry. In fact, PT HIM has been established in Indonesia since 1976 under the name PT Zastam Motor Indonesia.

At that time they assembled Japanese cars, namely Nissan. The manufacturing company was then purchased by PT Tricitra Karya in 1993. The new Bendara made the existing production facility in Pondok Ungu, Bekasi, assemble cars made in South Korea, Hyundai.

Their work with Hyundai even increased greatly in 2000 when PT Tricitra Karya finally changed its name to PT Hyundai Indonesia Motor.

Unfortunately, the honeymoon with Hyundai ended when Hyundai Motor Corp arrived in Indonesia under the flags of Hyundai Motor Indonesia and Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia in 2020. That’s when PT Hyundai Indonesia Motor’s production facility changed its name to PT Handal Indonesia Motor.
