New Mitsubishi Triton Tested in East Kalimantan Before Official Launch in Indonesia

The new Mitsubishi Triton is being tested in East Kalimantan before its official launch in Indonesia. This was revealed by Irwan Kuncoro, Director of Sales and Marketing Division at PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI), on Tuesday (28/5/2024).

Irwan Kuncoro stated that East Kalimantan was chosen because it is an ideal location to test the toughness of the Mitsubishi Triton. Additionally, East Kalimantan is the second-largest sales region for the Mitsubishi Triton after Sumatra.

“We have just started testing the new Triton at several mining sites. If you ask about the results, since we have just begun, we cannot announce them yet. Essentially, we are very confident because the product is quite good,” explained Irwan Kuncoro.

It is known that the Mitsubishi Triton dominates the automotive market in East Kalimantan with a market share of more than 50 percent.

“East Kalimantan has the largest market. Our Pajero Sport has a market share of up to 51 percent, and Triton, which is indeed MMKSI’s largest market nationally after Sumatra, is East Kalimantan,” said Heru Siswantoro, Head of the Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and IBT section at PT MMKSI.

The high sales figures of Triton in East Kalimantan are largely contributed by the fleet segment (bulk purchases) by mining and plantation companies. Mitsubishi even employs a proactive strategy by providing routine services directly at the mining or plantation sites.

Meanwhile, other models like the Xpander contribute 26 percent market share in the East Kalimantan area. For the new sport utility vehicle (SUV) XForce, the national sales target is 15 percent in 2024.

“For XForce, we have a national target of 15 percent, which we will try to achieve in 2024. That is the contribution we are aiming for,” said Heru.
