Ford is trying to make their name proud again in the rally arena in a different way. The car manufacturer from the United States, which has been world rally champion four times, is now trying to shine again by making a different rally car.
Yes, this time the rally car they made is completely powered by electricity. The car, called the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally, was completely developed from an electric car made by Ford, namely the Ford Mustang Mach-E. To be precise, the highest variant is the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT.
Just to match its name, the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally gets lots of new touches. “This car will take the Mustang to places it has never been before. This car will provide a pure driving experience that has never existed before,” explained Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, quoted by Netcarshow, Monday (11/9/2023).
In terms of appearance, the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally is much fiercer. Ford installed a new front bumper with an integrated splitter, tow hooks and additional fog lights in the closed grille typical of electric cars.
Apart from that, there is also a new spoiler installed at the rear. The spoiler is very similar to the legendary rally car with the blue oval logo, the Ford Focus RS. The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rallu also has top and bottom body covers which are used to protect the battery and car body from rocks, gravel and other objects that are often encountered on rally tracks.
For technical specifications, the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally still uses the same battery as the Ford Muatang Mach-E GT, namely a 91 kWh battery. The battery produces 487 horsepower and a maximum torque of 880 Nm.
It’s just that the performance of this car will be slightly reduced compared to the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT. The reason is that the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally is much heavier in terms of weight because it gets new tire sizes, a body kit and a new suspension.
Well, the suspension has also improved. Now the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally is 20 millimeters taller than the Ford Mach-E GT.
Apart from that, there is also a new driving mode, namely RallySport Drive Mode 6. This mode is specifically designed for off-road use.
“We are always exploring. The various advantages of the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rallu will make the owner excited to pursue the next adventure,” explained Donna Dickson, Chief Engineer of the Mustang Mach-E.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally itself will be sold to the public. Those interested just need to pay USD 65,000 or up to IDR 994 million. The price is quite affordable for an electric rally car.
