Mitsubishi XForce Used Xpander Engine, This is The Difference

The Mitsubishi XForce received a lot of criticism because it uses the Mitsubishi Xpander engine. Many accuse the engine coded 4A91 that it will be sluggish if placed in an SUV like the Mitsubishi XForce.

Hikaru Mii, Director of Product Strategy Division of PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) understands that there is criticism about the engine. According to him, there are several things that need to be straightened out regarding the accusation.

He said the 4A91 engine in the Mitsubishi Xforce had received several different touches from the 4A91 engine in the Mitsubishi Xpander. The touch is a reset for response to the CVT transmission.

“There is re-tuning so that the engine is more responsive at low revs,” said Hikaru Mii.

Apart from that, he also assessed that in terms of power to weight ratio, the Mitsubishi XForce and Mitsubishi Xpander are also very different. According to him, the Mitsubishi XForce is 50 kilograms lighter than the Mitsubishi Xpander.

He said this happened because in terms of dimensions there was a big difference between the Mitsubishi XForce and the Mitsubishi Xpander. The Mitsubishi XForce is dedicated to carrying five passengers and the Mitsubishi Xpander can carry seven passengers at once.

“So the power to weight ratio of the Mitsubishi XForce is much better,” he explained.

He even said that they had proven this when testing the Mitsubishi XForce in the Lembang area, West Java. The car actually had no difficulty at all when passing various types of roads. Including roads with steep inclines which are often found in Lembang, West Java.

“There are absolutely no difficulties because the engine is still very ideal for the Mitsubishi XForce,” he explained.

Previously, Hiroshi Nagaoka, Executive Vice President of Mitsubishi Motor Corporation, also said that the choice of the Mitsubishi Xpander engine was not without reason. According to him, the Mitsubishi Xpander has proven itself as a car that is well received by the public. Not only in Indonesia but also in other countries.

So they don’t have to think much about installing the Mitsubishi Xpander platform and powertrain to the Mitsubishi XForce.

“Mitsubishi Xpander has a good reputation in Asian countries, especially in Indonesia, so there is no need to hesitate to take advantage of the Xpander platform for the next model,” said Hiroshi Nagaoka.

Hiroshi Nagaoka continued that the Mitsubishi Xpander engine and platform were not directly installed on the Mitsubishi XForce. According to him
He said an update had been made to the Mitsubishi Xpander engine so that the Mitsubishi XForce engine had a very different peak torque.

In addition, there are changes in the transmission pattern that provide a typical SUV driving experience.

“This will be very useful for urban and out of town,” he explained.
