Mitsubishi Triton Electric Coming Soon in Five Years

Mitsubishi ensures that its pride pickup, the Mitsubishi Triton, will become an electric vehicle in the next five years. This was revealed by Hiroshi Nagaoka, Mitsubishi Motors Global Executive Vice President, to the Australian automotive site, Carsales, Thursday (3/8/2023).

According to Hiroshi Nagaoka, the plan to present the electric Mitsubishi Triton is part of Mitsubishi’s big plan, titled Challenge 2025.

“In the future we see that an electric pickup will indeed be needed. It’s just that we are currently thinking about when the right time to release the car is,” said Hiroshi Nagaoka.

“It’s just that there are also other options for electrification such as hybrid and plug-in hybrid. If it’s a plug-in hybrid, then we can take advantage of the existing platform,” he added.

Currently, according to him, the transition from conventional to electric pickups has been carried out by other brands. So Mitsubishi doesn’t want them to be left behind. Inevitably, within the next five years, the electric Mitsubishi Triton must be realized.

He said the platform owned by Mitsubishi Triton is still very capable of adapting to various types of technology. It’s just that the most ideal is used for parallel hybrid technology.

Hiroshi Nagaoka said that hybrid is indeed the most ideal solution. Especially for short-term needs where the supporting infrastructure for electric vehicles is still very limited.

Moreover, the fact that pickups like the Mitsubishi Triton are mostly used in mining areas, forests and remote areas. Generally, in these areas the supporting facilities for electric vehicles are still very limited.

“Most likely we will make a hybrid first, after that we will consider whether to make a plug-in hybrid or go straight to electricity,” he said.
