A unique collaboration was recently carried out by Mercedes-Maybach and space tourism company Space Perspective. Through an official statement, Tuesday (10/10/2023), Mercedes-Maybach and Space Perspective invited rich people around the world to travel to space using balloons.
These balloons are not just any balloons. Space Perspective actually designed the balloon specifically so that it could launch into space to a height of 100,000 feet or around 30.5 kilometers from Earth.
This distance is actually not really outer space. This is because NASA only recognizes the area that is considered outer space to be 264,000 feet or around 80.4 kilometers from Earth.
It’s just that Space Perspective has a special reason for their flagship balloon not flying any higher. They actually want these tourists not to need to equip themselves with special equipment like astronauts and other space tourists.
While in space, Mercedes-Maybach and Space Perspective want tourists to enjoy all the premium facilities available on the balloon called Space Neptune.
Some of the interesting facilities provided include an exclusive lounge with a variety of food and drinks and a very comfortable VIP rest room. This balloon will be a very luxurious room to view outer space and Earth from a height with special people. This is because Space Neptune is ready to carry eight people at once.
Taber MacCalum, Co-CEO and founder of Space Perspective, said that the collaboration with Mercedes-Maybach was a very positive thing for both parties. The reason is that both companies are at the forefront in their respective industries.
“This collaboration accelerates innovation and expands market coverage. Both for the automotive industry and space travel business,” said Taber McCalum.
Mercedes-Maybach AG itself not only signed the collaboration. The various needs of space tourists carried out on Earth will all be handled by Mercedes-Maybach.
This includes providing luxury electric cars made by Mercedes-Maybach which will be used to go to the departure location.
“Our partnership with Space Perspective will enable space explorers to ride in style on land,” said Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach.
