Many Electric Motorbikes Similar to Vespa, Piaggio: It Means We Inspire

The circulation of electric motorbikes in Indonesia is getting bigger with various brands entering and selling their products. In fact, there is an electric scooter that is very similar to the Vespa, it’s just that there are several elements that make it not completely the same.

As is known, Vespa is a two-wheeled vehicle brand that is thick with its history. Its iconic and timeless design has made a brand from China imitate its shape to make an electric motorbike.

Seeing this phenomenon, PR and Communications Manager PT Piaggio Indonesia (PID) Ayu Hapsari admitted that her party was not bothered. The reason is, those who imitate do not influence the Vespa brand which has its own characteristics.

“When talking about vehicles similar to the Vespa, not only electric vehicles, there are also petrol versions. There are some who are similar, which means we are so inspiring,” said Ayu when met in the Senayan area, Central Jakarta, Thursday (24/8/2023).

According to Ayu, electric motorbikes that mimic the Vespa design also have different materials when compared to the products they market. Therefore, PID does not want to make a big deal out of it and hand it back to consumers.

“I can’t comment. But, we are sure that friends (the media) can tell which ones are real and which are not. You can distinguish this Elettrica from other products. I’ve seen it myself, and it’s different,” he said.

For your information, PID officially sells the Vespa Elettrica electric motorbike with CBU status, aka imported directly from Italy. This electric scooter is priced at IDR 198 million on the road (OTR) Jakarta.

Ayu emphasized that Vespa Elettrica has the latest technology that is not found in other brands. This technology makes the price of this electric scooter quite high.

“Vespa Elettrica has a technology called VMS (Vehicle Management System), this is a technology that manages everything on the motorbike. This is also what makes the Vespa Elettrica expensive,” he said.

Indonesia is the first country in Asia Pacific to launch and sell the Vespa Elletrica. Ayu explained that because Indonesia has the second largest Vespa fan base in the world.

“Because we have an enthusiastic fan base, Indonesia is the second biggest Vespa fan in the world. We are very loved, that’s why Vespa World Day is finally in Asia, first in Indonesia,” said Ayu.
