Land Rover Defender Twin from China to Greet Indonesia Next Year

The electric car Jaecoo J6, whose design is often believed to resemble the Land Rover Defender, will greet Indonesia next year. The resemblance between Jaecoo J6 and the legendary British SUV has indeed been mentioned by many foreign media outlets.

The Australian site Drive mentioned the retro appearance and the front face of Jaecoo J6 reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender. “The difference is Jaecoo J6 is an electric car,” said Drive.

The same opinion was voiced by AutoBuzz from Malaysia. According to them, the boxy and sturdy design indeed looks very similar to the Land Rover Defender.

“Short engine hood size looks similar to the Land Rover Defender,” they explained.

However, there are several factors that make Jaecoo J6 not directly similar to the Land Rover Defender. Chery, as the parent company of Jaecoo, designed the car with its own style.

Interestingly, Jaecoo J6 is confirmed to be available in Indonesia next year. Zeng Shuo, Assistant President Director of Chery Sales Indonesia, stated that Jaecoo J6 is one of the cars that will be brought when Chery activates the Jaecoo brand in Indonesia.

“We are working on it for the first quarter. We are trying. But there is a possibility in the second quarter as well,” said Zeng.

When asked about the selling price of Jaecoo J6, Chery Sales Indonesia admitted that they are currently determining a suitable selling price for the local community. However, the leaked information suggests that the price of the Jaecoo J6 electric car will be higher than the five-door Suzuki Jimny but cheaper than the Land Rover Defender which costs billions of rupiah.

“I think ours will be higher (in terms of price compared to the Jimny 5-door). More than Rp 500 million,” Zeng explained.

In the Chinese market, Jaecoo J6 comes with specifications similar to the iCAR 03. Where, its battery has a capacity of 69.8 kWh and its range is claimed to reach 501 km with CLTC testing.

Jaecoo J6 is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive options with dual electric motors. In its highest variant, J6 is claimed to have a total power of 279 PS and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.

Chery Indonesia already has assembly facilities in Indonesia. This is what will lead them to push Jaecoo J6 to be assembled domestically.

“We will support the domestic economy, so at the moment we are studying how this car can be assembled in Indonesia,” Zhen said.
