KIA has confirmed that it will present an affordable electric hatchback car called the Kia EV2 in 2025. This compact electric car without a tail is part of Kia’s plan to release 17 new electric cars by 2027.
“The Kia EV will be produced in 2025 at our factory in Slovakia along with other electric cars,” said Kia’s statement as quoted by Drive, Friday (13/10/2023).
They explained that in the first stage the Kia EV2 will be marketed in Europe. Next, they will consider again whether the compact electric car can be brought to Asian regions such as Indonesia and Australia.
Kia’s Slovak factory currently produces the Kia Ceed hatchback. It is planned that the factory will completely transform into an electric car factory over time. It is planned that several electric cars such as the Kia EV2, Kia EV3, Kia EV3 Small SUV and Kia EV4 sedan will be made at the factory.
Until now, Kia has not been very open about the details of the South Korean car company’s flagship electric hatchback car. It is expected that the car will be much smaller than the Kia EV3 SUV and powerful with a European design.
“The Kia EV2 is very unique and a very important car for the European market and is smaller in size than the EV3,” said Ho-Sung Song, CEO of Kia.
Regarding price, Kia only provides a few clues. They confirmed that in the near future apart from the Kia EV2, they will first sell the Kia EV3 SUV, Kia EV4 and Kia EV5.
The plan for the four new electric cars from them is to fill the price segment starting from USD 35,000 or the equivalent of IDR 547.5 million to USD 50,000 or reaching IDR 782.2 million.
What are the opportunities to enter Indonesia? Kia specializes in electric hatchback cars for countries on the blue continent.
It’s just predicted that the opportunity still exists because currently Kia in Indonesia doesn’t have an electric car that costs under IDR 1 billion. Currently PT Kreta Indo Artha (KIA) is only marketing the Kia EV6 and Kia EV9.
The Kia EV6 is currently sold at IDR 1,299 billion. Likewise with the Kia EV9 which is sold at IDR 1.975 billion.
So if they want to fill the electric car segment under IDR 1 billion, they could bring the Kia EV2 to Indonesia.
