Jaguar Land Rover Electric Cars to Use Chinese-Made Platforms

Luxury electric cars by Jaguar Land Rover will utilize platforms made by the Chinese company, Chery. This was confirmed by Yin Tongyao, President of Chery Auto.

Quoted by Car News China on Thursday (June 13, 2024), Yin Tongyao stated that future electric cars by Jaguar Land Rover, both PHEV and BEV, will use the M3X and E0X modular architectures.

“Currently, the M3X and E0X are found in our electric cars such as the Exlantix ET, Exlantix ES, Luxeed 7, Luxeed R7, Exeed RX, Chery Tiggo 9, and others. The same platforms will later be used by Jaguar Land Rover,” said Yin Tongyao.

According to Car News China, Chery and Jaguar Land Rover have a very close relationship, having collaborated for 12 years.

In 2012, the two companies formed a joint venture in China to produce Jaguar Land Rover cars. This jointly owned factory began operations in 2014 and continues to operate to this day. Jaguar Land Rover engineers have also significantly helped Chery with suspension settings. Additionally, Land Rover cars have been a significant inspiration for Chery’s designers. Now, it is Chery’s turn to assist JLR.

Now it’s Jaguar Land Rover’s turn to benefit from this collaboration. The British car company has been permitted to use platforms made by Chery.

Especially the platforms from Chery’s luxury car division, Exeed. It is believed that two Exeed platforms, the M3X and T2X, will be used.

“These are platforms dedicated to ICE and PHEV vehicles. Of course, Jaguar Land Rover is very interested in adopting plug-in hybrid technology as they lag behind in the renewable energy car industry,” explained Car News China.

It’s important to note that Jaguar Land Rover is not the only automaker adopting Chinese modular architectures to build electric cars. This is a growing trend among many car manufacturers.

Mitsubishi has previously collaborated with Geely to create the Mitsubishi Airtrek. Similarly, Volkswagen has used the E/E platform from Xpeng.
