Isuzu Indonesia is still waiting for confirmation of the transfer of the Isuzu Thailand factory to Indonesia. Currently, efforts to move the factory are still in progress.
As a result, PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia, the agent holding the Isuzu brand in Indonesia, is still unable to provide definite information regarding the realization of the factory move.
When met at a media gathering in Central Jakarta, IAMI Marketing Communications Manager Puti Annisa Moeloek explained that the collaboration was still ongoing, but still needed more in-depth discussion.
“Regarding the factory move, we still cannot provide a definite update. This requires high-level discussions, but all cooperation is still ongoing,” he explained, Thursday (25/1/2024).
For information, in mid-2023, the Ministry of Industry announced that the automotive company Isuzu Motors Ltd would move its truck factory from Thailand to Indonesia and start production in 2024.
By moving the truck factory to Indonesia, the Ministry of Industry hopes that Isuzu can increase the use of domestic components in the assembly process, one of which is by encouraging vehicle types that are still being assembled using the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) import scheme to be changed to Incompletely Knocked Down (IKD).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the Isuzu factory located in Karawang, West Java, has a fairly high utilization rate, reaching 85%. The 2022 production will be 44,694 units or 15% of Isuzu’s total production worldwide.
“The cooperation is still taking place, there it has been ‘promise’ in the term so it will be the same here. However, we cannot yet provide certainty about when and where it will be because there is no further information from there,” he said.
