Insurance agency Insurify recently released a list of the top 10 cars that are the most unlucky because they are often involved in accidents in the United States. In the research they conducted, it turned out that the cars that often had accidents came from various types of cars.
Interestingly, the car that is in the first position or most frequently involved in accidents is a luxury car that is equipped with many sophisticated safety features.
“In 2022 there were 46,270 accidents in the United States and involved various types of cars. No matter what car you drive, alertness and the ability to drive smartly and safely are the key to reducing accident rates,” wrote Insurify.
To process this data, Insurify doesn’t only take the number of accidents involving cars. They also looked at the car insurance application data. They also explore the safety features in the car, the driving style of the car owner, and use evaluation data from the Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as a benchmark for calculations.
From that method, there are 10 of the most unlucky cars in the United States because they often have accidents. Uniquely, the first position is actually held by a luxury sedan made in Germany, the Audi S4 with 11.7 percent of the total accidents that occurred in the United States.
Insurify suspects that this luxury car often has accidents because the sedan is indeed made as a high-performance luxury car. The V6 engine in the car with the four-ring logo can generate 349 horsepower.
“Not only is it a car that often crashes. This car, based on our data, is the car that gets the most fines,” said Insurify.
Apart from the Audi S4, the other car that has the most accidents is the Scion iA. The car, which is only sold in the United States, is in second place with a narrow percentage with the Audi S4, which is 11.5 percent.
It’s just that the Scion iA is in the number two position with a special note. The car is very popular in the United States because the price is very cheap. Its large population makes the percentage of accidents involving the Scion iA high.
The third position is actually very unique because it is held by an electric car made by General Motors, the Chevrolet Volt.
The fourth to sixth positions just don’t make the forehead frown. The reason is that in that position successively held by sports cars, namely the Hyundai Veloster N, Toyota GR86 and Subaru WRX.
The seventh and tenth positions are filled by various types of cars. In seventh place is an SUV that is also sold in Indonesia, namely the Subaru XV Crosstrek.
Another SUV, the Chevrolet Silverado LD, also took eighth place with an accident rate of 10.4 percent.
The rest in ninth position is KIA Niro and in tenth position is held by Subaru Impreza.
Data from Insurify does show that accidents are not dominated by certain types of cars. So the driver factor is also a determinant of the accident rate.
“When it comes to reducing the risk of a car accident, behavior appears to matter more than the type of vehicle you drive. The most accident-prone models of 2023 contain a mix of luxury and economy vehicles as well as foreign and domestic manufacturers,” explains Insurify.
