Indonesia Export 1.100 Units of Electric Cars in 2023, Here’s the Reason

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that Indonesia could only export 1.100 electric cars. He said this when inaugurating the first assembly of the Chery Omoda E5 electric car in the Bekasi area, West Java, on Saturday (2/12/2023).

He appreciated the efforts made by PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) in collaboration with PT Handal Motor Indonesia (HMI) to assemble the Chinese-flagged electric car in Indonesia. It is hoped that this assembly will be able to boost exports of electric cars from Indonesia.

“Indonesia has exported electric cars but it is still small, namely 1,100 units. I hope this collaboration can produce electric cars that can be well received by the market. I hope the volume can continue to increase,” hoped Airlangga Hartarto.

The official who was born on October 1 1962 said that currently the number of electric car exports from Indonesia cannot be forced to increase quickly. This is because the volume of electric car production in Indonesia is still very small.

Apart from that, there are still not many car manufacturers in Indonesia who assemble or produce electric cars in the country.

He himself actually really hopes that Indonesia’s electric car exports can increase. “But again, the volume was still small, now the volume is too small. We don’t have a target, the important thing is that the goods are running,” explained Airlangga Hartarto.

In the same place, Harry Kamora, Vice President of PT CSI, said that the Chery car assembly factory reaches 1,000 to 1,500 units per month. “For electric cars, 250-300 units. This figure will adjust if the market grows,” explained Harry Kamora.

He ensured that the assembly of the Chery E5 was not only allocated to meet the needs of the domestic market but also exports. “Especially for the right-hand drive electric car market,” he explained.
