The Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric car officially launched in Indonesia after being launched at the GIIAS 2023 event. However, currently the status is still CBU, aka fully imported directly from abroad.
PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) decided to only bring one variant, namely the AWD type to the local market.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric car with CBU status costs IDR 1.197 billion on the road (OTR) in Jakarta.
HMID Chief Operating Officer Fransiscus Soerjopranoto said there were plans to produce Ioniq 6 locally. However, he said this would be done according to the needs of consumers in Indonesia.
“If CKD later meets the needs of our consumers in Indonesia, do those consumers want to become CKD? If so, we will consider it,” Frans said at ICE BSD City, Tangerang, some time ago.
The same thing was also expressed by Astrid Ariani Wijana, Head of Marketing Department at HMID, who said that it took a long process to carry out CKD. Especially to maintain the Ioniq 5 production capacity, which until now there are still many unfinished orders.
“To directly produce locally is not that easy. So we have homework to ensure the supply of Ioniq 5, especially the momentum already exists so that it can reach consumers as quickly as possible, so at this time (focus on) Ioniq 5 first,” said Astrid.
However, Astrid emphasized that the opportunity to assemble the Hyundai Ioniq 6 in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, remains open.
However, he explained that currently their focus is on meeting market demand in that segment.
“For example, if you go straight to CKD at this time, I think it’s a matter of preference. It doesn’t matter if it’s (Ioniq 6) CKD or not, what’s important is that we try to fulfill the potential or opportunities that exist,” he said.
Currently, the government is discussing the discourse on import tax exemption for electric vehicles. This can also be used by Hyundai to reduce the price of the Ioniq 6, while waiting for the moment to assemble it locally.
“(The plan for the lost import tax) is still a new discourse, right? If for example the discourse were to occur, we would automatically be able to enjoy it too. But we will discuss it later, “said Astrid.
