Having Technology, Mitsubishi Fuso Opens Battery Swap Option for Electric Canter

PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors (KTB), the official distributor of Mitsubishi Fuso trucks and buses in Indonesia, is considering battery swap technology for Mitsubishi Fuso eCanter electric truck operations in Indonesia. It is planned that KTB will officially present the light duty electric truck in Indonesia in the middle of this year.

Aji Jaya, Sales and Marketing Director of PT KTB said that currently they have tested the Mitsubishi Fuso eCanter with 8 companies in Indonesia. The trial was carried out in order to find out the actual conditions of use of electric trucks in the country.

Including receiving input from the company for the development of electric trucks. Some of the input includes the ability of the battery which is expected to cover longer distances.

“Now the distance the eCanter can travel is 140 kilometers. They hope the distance can be greater so as to minimize the charging process,” he explained.

Aji Jaya said KTB was ready to fulfill these demands. Moreover, currently the technology being developed has already been prepared. “Mitsubishi Fuso always innovates whatever is good. Including the choice of battery swap technology,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bayu Bayu Aprizal, General Manager of the Product Strategy Division of PT KTB, said that Mitsubishi Fuso had presented swap battery technology for electric trucks at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. So they have prepared a battery swap option to increase the mileage of the Mitsubishi Fuso eCanter.

“Regarding the possibility of this (battery swap) being implemented in Indonesia, we have studied it and at launch, several consumers from our partners have already asked about this,” explained Bayu.

However, he said that to bring this system to Indonesia there would be several processes that would be carried out, and it could not be done straight away.

“Of course we have a process, we can’t do it directly. We will survey infrastructure and everything if possible as long as it can support eCanter sales,” said Bayu.
