Get to Know the New Electric Motor Made in Indonesia, SMEV

Indonesian people are increasingly spoiled by the diversity of electric motorbikes. This time, a local company based in Ciputat, South Tangerang, SMEV has released two new electric motorbikes, namely the SMEV EM1 and SMEV EM-T.

The two electric motors are claimed to be made domestically. Various components used in SMEV are made by Small and Medium Industries (IKM) in the country.

“The presence of these two models is the result of the long work of all parties who collaborated to create SMEV EM-1 and SMEV EM-T. The most important thing is that we believe in the power of innovation and sustainable energy combined with the technology and expertise we have,” said Donny Ariyanto, founder of SMEV.

So, if you’re curious, let’s take a look at all the information about SMEV. Let’s take a closer look:

1. Origins of SMEV

SMEV is a new company which is a transformation from the famous motorcycle modification workshop, Studio Motor.

The founders of Studio Motor created SMEV because they saw the high trend of electrification and environmental issues that were increasingly urgent. From there they created a new business line called SMEV, which stands for Studio Motor Electric Vehicle.

2. Personalization of Electric Motors

SMEV presents two electric motorbike units namely SMEV EM-1 and SMEV EM-T. The advantage they offer is that both motorbikes can be modified according to the wishes of the customer.

So the customer can add several parts to the electric motor to suit the functions and needs they want.

“We really understand that every rider is unique, which is why SMEV offers a variety of customization options to make a customized electric motorcycle. Starting from the choice of colors, adjusting the ergonomics of the seat and handlebars to improving performance integrated with technology,” said Doni Ariyanto.

3. SMEV specifications

The two SMEV electric motorbikes, namely the SMEV EM-1 and SMEV EM-T, have almost the same technical specifications. The SMEV EM-1 is equipped with a 3,000 watt electric dynamo, a lithium ion battery from LG with a power of 72V40Ah and a programmable controller.

Meanwhile, the SMEV EM-T has a 4,000 watt electric dynamo, an LG lithium ion battery with 72V40Ah power and a programmable controller.

4. Mileage, Top Speed and Battery Recharge Time

The SMEV EM-1’s mileage is claimed to reach 110 kilometers. The top speed of the SMEV EM-1 is believed to be up to 105 kilometers per hour.

On the other hand, the SMEV EM-T is also claimed to have the same mileage and top speed capabilities. Even though it has a bigger dynamo, the carrying capacity of the SMEV EM-T which is used as an adventurous electric motorbike is indeed very influential.

The two electric motors also have a two-hour battery recharging time.

5. Target of 1,300 Units in 2025

SMEV targets to sell 93 units in 2023. It’s just that in 2025 they hope to be able to sell as many as 1,300 units of SMEV electric motorbikes.

The potential customers they aim for are loyal customers of modified motorbikes made by Studio Motor.
