General Chair of Gaikindo (Indonesian Association of Automotive Industries) Yohannes Nangoi said that his party had been lobbying the government regarding incentives for hybrid cars. However, he said the results were still awaiting discussion from the government.
As is known, the government currently only provides incentives for battery-based electric cars. However, Gaikindo encourages the government to also provide relaxation for hybrid cars.
“Yes, we’ve talked about sitting down with (the government). If you heard yesterday, the Minister of Industry said that the incentives for electric cars will be revised and new (executive instructions) will also be issued as soon as possible. In a month or two it should be out in this can be sorted out,” Nangoi said when met at ICE BSD City, Tangerang, Saturday (20/8/2023).
The government has actually provided incentives for hybrid cars in the form of a reduction in the Sales Tax on Luxury Goods (PPnBM). It is contained in Government Regulation no. 74 of 2021, where the emission is smaller, the PPnBM charged is also lower.
“If the name of a hybrid car can be given assistance, of course it’s even better, but it seems the government’s priority is running to electric cars first. Yes, later we will work with the government to find a better solution,” he said.
However, additional incentives from the government for hybrid cars are difficult to happen in the near future. This is because the government is currently focusing on accelerating the use of electric vehicles.
“Hybrid relaxation has its own program, the basis is carbon reduction, once the carbon goes down, the incentive is higher. It already exists,” said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang at ICE BSD, some time ago.
Even so, Gaikindo will continue to fight for additional incentives for hybrid cars. However, Nangoi confirmed that he had provided positive input to the government regarding hybrid cars.
“We will see together later. But what is clear is that we have provided quite positive input. We will see it together from the government,” said Nangoi.
