GAC Aion to Bring 7-Seater Electric Car to Indonesia in 2025

Chinese car manufacturer GAC Aion will introduce a 7-seater electric car to the Indonesian market. This was revealed by Qin Bangshu, Vice President of Aion Indonesia, this week in Guangzhou, China.

Qin Bangshu stated that Indonesia is an important market for GAC Aion. Therefore, they are committed to introducing two new electric cars annually in the country.

“Every year we will bring 2 to 3 models to Indonesia. In 3 years, we will bring 7 models to Indonesia,” explained Qin Bangshu.

One of the models to be introduced in Indonesia is a 7-seater electric car. This model is being brought in because GAC Aion’s research indicates that the Indonesian market highly favors 7-seater vehicles.

The 7-seater electric car is a crucial strategy for GAC Aion in Indonesia, according to Qin Bangshu. They even plan to manufacture this 7-seater electric car directly in Indonesia.

“The 7-seater electric car will be dedicated to Indonesia,” he explained.

Qin Bangshu mentioned that GAC Aion will implement a two-phase strategy for producing electric cars for the Indonesian market. First, they will utilize the production facilities of PT Indomobil.

At this facility, they plan to assemble two electric cars for the Indonesian market: the GAC Aion Y Plus and the GAC Aion Hyper HT.

Second, they will build their own factory in Indonesia to directly manufacture GAC Aion cars.

“In the second phase, we will build our own factory to meet local and export market demands. For instance, the 7-seater electric car will be produced in Indonesia,” he explained.

The presence of this factory will be strategically significant for the Southeast Asian region, according to Qin Bangshu. Indonesia will be the second country in Southeast Asia, after Thailand, to have a GAC Aion factory.

“We plan to have 7 right-hand drive electric cars in the Southeast Asian region. However, not all of them will be produced in Thailand. Some will be produced in Indonesia,” he stated.
