Ford plans to introduce an affordable electric car with an estimated price of US$ 30,000 or around Rp 482.8 million. According to a report by Carscoops on Tuesday (2/7/2024), Ford CEO Jim Farley said that the affordable electric car is already in development by the blue oval logoed car company.
The plan is to bring the affordable compact electric car to the market in the next 2.5 years. Jim Farley is very confident that Ford’s affordable electric car will bring significant profits to the company.
“Jim Farley confirmed that Ford’s affordable electric car is indeed designed to compete with Chinese electric cars and Tesla’s baby EV,” said Carscoops.
At the same time, Jim Farley mentioned that Americans need to stop their habit of using large vehicles to help the country transition to a cleaner and electrified future.
“We need to start falling in love with smaller vehicles again. This is crucial for our society and for the adoption of electric vehicles,” said Jim Farley.
“We love these big vehicles, and I love them too, but it’s a big problem with emissions and pollution,” he added.
Ford is prioritizing the production of smaller electric cars because financially, making large electric vehicles is not feasible.
“You have to make a radical shift to create profitable electric cars. The first thing we need to do is allocate all our capital to smaller and more affordable electric cars,” he said.
He warned that if they do not make this strategic change, car companies like Ford will be outpaced by Chinese car manufacturers. He noted that the expansion of Chinese electric cars would continue relentlessly.
