Ferrari to Maintain Conventional V12 Engines Until They Are Officially Banned

Ferrari will continue to maintain its conventional V12 engines until they are officially banned by the government. The V12 engine has long been a hallmark of the Italian sports car company.

According to Ferrari, eliminating the V12 engine would be equivalent to erasing Ferrari’s identity and history. Therefore, they are determined to produce and sell V12 engine cars for as long as possible until they are officially banned.

“We will continue to produce V12 engines until there are regulations prohibiting us from doing so,” said Emanuele Carando, Head of Product Marketing at Ferrari, as quoted by Drive on Wednesday (June 12, 2024).

“We hope that in the future, there will be regulations that support our desire,” he added.

Emanuele Carando stated that reducing emissions does not necessarily have to focus on electric vehicles. He believes that the development of conventional engines with sustainable fuels is also a viable solution.

According to him, the performance of Ferrari’s V12 engines is highly favored by customers. This performance cannot be replicated by other engines or the electrification technology that is currently trending.

“We believe it is very important to provide this engine to our customers, now and in the future,” explained Emanuele Carando.

Ferrari is currently very cautious about producing cars with V12 engines. These cars are only made to satisfy the needs of Ferrari’s loyal customers.

Most recently, they released the Ferrari 12Cilindri. The sports car, made in Maranello, Italy, is the successor to the Ferrari 812. It is built on an aluminum platform for front and mid-engine cars, which was first released in 2018.

Compared to its predecessor, the 12Cilindri has a wheelbase that is 200 mm shorter and 15% stronger torsional rigidity than the 812. As the name suggests, the Ferrari 12Cilindri is equipped with a 6,496 cc (6.5 L) F140 V12 engine. This engine can produce 830 horsepower and a maximum torque of 678 Nm.
