Fact, Indonesia Still Buying Expensive EV

Indonesia continues to be flooded with new electric cars. In fact, most electric cars sold cost more than IDR 500 million and reach billions of rupiah.

In fact, Indonesian people are still looking for expensive electric cars. Based on wholesale sales data managed by Gaikindo (Indonesian Association of Indonesian Motor Vehicles), electric cars priced at IDR 800 million will be the best sellers throughout August 2023.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is in first place as the best-selling battery-based electric vehicle, in August 2023. This electric car made by a South Korean manufacturer managed to beat the Wuling Air ev which was in first place in July 2023.

In August 2023, the Hyundai Ioniq will have 5 figures for wholesale sales or deliveries from factory to dealer of 496 units. The Signature Long Range type, which is priced at IDR 870 million, is the best-selling with wholesale sales of 457 units.

Wuling Air ev followed in second place with sales reaching 480 units, of which the Long Range type as the highest variant sold 281 units. Meanwhile, the latest variant, Air ev Lite, recorded sales of 100 units.

Sales of the Ioniq 5 recorded an increase of 79.7 percent compared to July when only 276 units were sold. Meanwhile, Air EV also experienced an increase of 63.8 percent compared to the previous month with 293 units.

Both electric car models have been produced in Indonesia and have met the requirements for entry into the government incentive program. This is what makes the sales figures high every month.

Then, the electric car from Japan, Toyota bZ4X, is in third place with sales of 89 units. Followed by the Lexus RZ 450e which recorded 72 unit sales, and the newly launched luxury sedan electric car, Hyundai Ioniq 6, which sold 61 units.

11. Mercedes-Benz EQB 250: 12 pcs
12. Nissan Leaf: 10 units
13. Mercedes-Benz EQE 350+: 2 pcs
14. BMW i440 Gran Coupe: 2 units
15. Kia EV6: 1 piece
