The Hyundai Genesis G80 Electrified electric car has often been circulating in Indonesia. So when will the car actually be sold in Indonesia?
It is known that the Genesis G80 Electrified was first brought to Indonesia by PT Hyundai Motor Indonesia (HMID) when it became the official car for the G20 Summit in Nusa Dua, Bali in November 2022. After that, the Genesis G80 Electrified was often present at various official Indonesian state events.
Including currently at the 43rd ASEAN Summit which is still taking place this weekend. The problem is that the brand is actually not officially present in Indonesia.
So when will the Genesis brand be present in Indonesia?
Franciscus Soerjopranoto, Chief Operating Officer of HMID, said that proper preparations were needed to market Genesis in Indonesia. Moreover, there are plans to bring the car in a limited segment, aka niche.
“Just wait for the match date. Until now we are still learning. “But again, the products we will present must be products that suit the needs of the Indonesian people,” said Frans to journalists in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/9/2023).
To market Genesis in Indonesia, Frans emphasized that HMID is a brand that dares to take steps. This can be seen from their focus on selling electric cars, while some others are still marketing conventional cars
“So if we talk about brands or other brands that are still in Hyundai, we will learn what the answers are like, that’s all the answers. The point is we don’t only contribute to the Indonesian people but we also contribute to activities at events. like this ASEAN Summit,” he said.
For your information, Genesis also has conventional and electric engine models like those used at the G20 Summit. Frans also hinted that the premium car would enter the Indonesian market with an electric variant.
“Still under study. Moreover, as friends know, pollution in Jakarta is no longer good, that’s why we use electric vehicles to reduce emissions. The hope is that we can have healthier air in Indonesia,” he said.
For the battery-based electric version, the Genesis G80 Electrified has a lithium-ion battery specification with a capacity of 87.2 kWh. In one full charge, this car can travel up to 427 kilometers.
This luxury sedan electric car is equipped with 2 drive motors, each of which can produce 185 Ps of power (combined 370 Ps) and peak torque of 350 Nm (combined 700 Nm).
To recharge, on 800 V rapid charging, charging from 10 percent to 80 percent only takes 22 minutes. Whereas in normal charging conditions, for 10 percent to 100 percent it takes 9 hours.
