Member of the House of Representative (DPR) Eddy Soeparno has an interesting view about the factors that are hampering the electric car industry in Indonesia. In a discussion held in Jakarta, Tuesday (21/11/2023), Eddy Soeparno said that the lack of a used electric car market was one of the factors that had quite an influence on the development of the electric car industry in the country.
The legislator from the National Mandate Party (PAN) said that the used vehicle market is considered important in the development of the automotive industry. This will provide convenience to consumers who want to buy a vehicle.
This is considered necessary if electric vehicles want to develop more rapidly in Indonesia. Remembering that currently people in Indonesia think about the resale price before buying a vehicle.
“Regarding the second hand market (used electric car market), today I don’t think there is one yet. So we don’t know. “EVs are good in my opinion and also important, but we really have to mature the ecosystem,” said Eddy Soeparno.
Apart from that, he revealed that the most important thing for EV vehicles is the availability of SPKLU, electric car service and aftersales. According to him, SPKLU with the fast charging feature will encourage people to start switching to electric vehicles.
“I think, if we talk about EVs today, there are several challenges, the first is (the availability of) SPKLU (Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations). “Especially the fast charging type, don’t let us, for example, travel from Jakarta to Surabaya, and then charge the battery at SPKLU (it turns out) we wait (up to) two hours,” he said.
For information, the number of SPKLU in Indonesia has now reached 854 units spread across 577 locations. However, this is deemed insufficient because it is not commensurate with the number of electric vehicles circulating in Indonesia.
Apart from that, Eddy said the battery is also an important issue for electric vehicles, especially regarding mileage. The price of electric car batteries, which is still very high, also needs to be reduced to attract people to switch to electrification.
“Secondly, we have to know about the durability of the battery itself, including the cost of replacing it, because the battery is the largest component in an EV. Third is service and maintenance. “Today I haven’t heard what EV service and maintenance is like,” he said.
