Dollar Continues to Rise, This is the Predicted Time to Increase Vehicle Prices

The value of the dollar against the Rupiah continues to rise. Currently, one dollar is equivalent to IDR 15.900.

This increase will certainly have an impact on many things, including vehicle prices. Currently, many vehicle manufacturers in Indonesia have not raised selling prices.

It’s just that it certainly won’t last long. Novian Taufiq, General Manager of PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors (KTB), producer of Mitusbishi Fuso in Indonesia, on Sunday (29/10/2023) confirmed that currently this condition has not had a big influence on vehicle prices.

It’s just that if it doesn’t go down, then like it or not, an increase in vehicle prices cannot be avoided.

“If this condition continues until December, is it possible that there will be price adjustments,” he explained.

He continued that currently the condition of vehicle sales in the country is in a difficult position. Apart from the dollar exchange rate against the Rupiah, political conditions and situations, especially the Presidential and Vice Presidential General Election (Pemilu) process, also have a big influence.

According to him, currently many authorities are waiting for the election process to take place. They therefore restrain their investment activities domestically.

“If it is clear in February 2024 who will be selected, from there entrepreneurs will start to determine, in March after Eid it will start again,” he explained.

In a different place, the same thing was predicted by the Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor, Anton Jimmi Suwandy. He said car manufacturers would monitor the movement of the dollar for several months before deciding on a price increase.

“We have to look at the trend, it has to be long term, if 1-2 days is not possible, we always calculate the average, 3 months, if 1 day is not possible. The average is 3 months to 6 months,” explained Anton Suwandy.

Anton Suwandy explained that the manufacturer had to increase the price because several components were transacted using US dollars. Generally, models that are imported in their entirety, aka CBU (Completely Build Up) will be directly affected.

“If it goes up steadily for 3 months, then we have to increase it because some of our parts are imported, especially CBU cars, so we pay for them in dollars. For example, if the base price goes up by 100 dollars, then we will go up too,” he concluded.
