Comedian Turned Senator Transforms Daihatsu Luxio into GMC The A-Team

Komeng, a comedian who is now a member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD), is preparing to receive his dream car. Uniquely, unlike other public officials, Komeng is trying to fulfill his long-time dream of owning a GMC Vandura, the vehicle that appeared in the TV series The A-Team.

However, he couldn’t simply purchase the classic car. Fortunately, he never runs out of ideas. He then contacted the custom workshop Autologi to bring his wish to life.

The base for this transformation is an entry-level MPV from Daihatsu, the Luxio. The choice of Luxio was based on its boxy design, ease of maintenance, and the availability of an automatic variant, as requested by Komeng.

The car’s body was converted using hand-formed steel, except for the side panels, which are made of fiber. The front fascia was replaced with a new hood, grille, square headlights, front bumper, front spoiler, and new fenders. Additionally, a sunvisor was added to the front windshield.

On the sides, a new widebody kit was added, which required modifications to the doors. The rear sliding door was also converted to electric using components from a Toyota Alphard. The rear window was covered with a steel panel to resemble the Vandura, and American-style side mirrors were installed.

Finally, the rear of the car features a rear spoiler. The original tailgate was replaced with custom barndoor-style doors that open sideways, made by Autologi. The rear lights were sourced from a Jeep. The car’s body was painted black using Sikkens HS Expert paint.

“We’ve finished the GMC, or Gran Max Custom. This car was built in three months for Bang Komeng. This is for DPD,” said Yogie Ramadha, Director of Autologi Artwork Indonesia.

Before delivering the car to Komeng, Autologi also tested it on the road. This was done to ensure that the car would be comfortable and suitable for daily use.

“We tested it to see if it’s comfortable to drive and to identify any issues that might arise from the modifications,” he explained.
