Citroen Strengthens Commitment to Electric Vehicle Production in Indonesia

Citroen Indonesia is reported to be in the trial phase of local electric vehicle production using Indomobil Group’s facilities in Purwakarta, West Java. This move is in line with their efforts to strengthen their commitment to producing environmentally friendly vehicles in Indonesia.

CEO of Citroen Indonesia, Tan Kim Piaum, explained that local assembly is a crucial requirement that must be met. Citroen has been enjoying the benefits of incentive policies for the import of completely built-up (CBU) electric vehicles since May 2024.

“Regarding the electric vehicle (EV) program, we are encouraged to carry out localization or local assembly. Together with Stellantis, we have been preparing, even to the trial stage,” Tan told reporters in Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday (2/7/2024).

Every brand that utilizes CBU electric vehicle incentives is required to build a factory in Indonesia within five years. Therefore, Citroen is striving to meet this obligation by leveraging the facilities of Indomobil Group.

“This trial means we have assembled several units, but it cannot be called mass production yet. Our target for mass production is the second half of 2024. At the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024, we might be able to announce the start of production,” Tan explained.

Indomobil and Stellantis are conducting various studies to ensure the readiness for local assembly of Citroen electric vehicles. The results of these studies will determine the right time to start producing the French electric vehicles in Indonesia.

“We cannot announce mass production yet, but our target in the second half of 2024 has become a joint commitment between Stellantis and Indomobil,” Tan revealed.

Currently, Citroen markets the E-C3 electric car in Indonesia by importing it from India. This environmentally friendly vehicle is sold for Rp377 million after receiving duty-free incentives from the government.
