China’s EV Car Price War in Indonesia Getting Intense

Chinese EV cars sold in Indonesia are increasingly competing fiercely. One with another has a price gap that is not too far away.

Most recently, PT Chery Sales Indonesia launched the Chery Omoda E5 electric car at a price of IDR 498.8 million. They even gave a special price for the first 100 people to take home the electric car which was assembled in Bekasi, West Java, namely IDR 488.8 million.

Chery said the price includes subsidized Value Added Tax (VAT) in accordance with Indonesian government policy for electric vehicles that meet the TKDN requirements of 40%.

“The Chery Omoda E5 is a real symbol of the unification of technological innovation, futuristic design and ecological awareness through sustainable mobility,” said Rifkie Setiawan, Head of Brand Department PT Chery Sales Indonesia.

In terms of price, the Chery Omoda E5 will compete with the MG 4 EV electric car. Currently PT MG Motor Indonesia is selling the electric car, which is assembled in Cikarang, West Java, for IDR 433 million.

The price composition of the two Chinese electric cars will certainly make competition even fiercer. It seems as if the price of the Chery Omoda E5 is not that far from the MG 4 EV.

The competitive atmosphere is not only visible in the Chery Omoda E5 and MG 4 EV. The two Chinese electric cars that are facing each other directly are the Wuling Binguo ev and Neta V.

Currently the Wuling Binguo ev is being sold for IDR 348 million to IDR 408 million. Meanwhile, the Neta V is priced at R 379 million. Both electric cars come with completely different features and mileage which will certainly be a consideration for consumers.

From this composition, it can be seen that Chinese car manufacturers in Indonesia seem to be deliberately fighting each other. In fact, they are not trying to reduce the dominance of manufacturers from other countries who also sell electric cars in Indonesia, such as Hyundai, Toyota, Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Instead they tend to target other electric cars made in China. Like when Seres presented Seres E1 in Indonesia to match the popularity of Wuling Air ev.

Currently the Wuling Air ev is sold at a price of IDR 190 million to IDR 275 million. Meanwhile, the Seres E1 is sold at IDR 189 million.
