China Introduces More Affordable Electric Cars, Priced Cheaper than Kawasaki Ninja 250

The Chinese automotive market continues to be enlivened by affordable electric cars. Recently, Zhidou launched a mini electric car called the Zhidou Rainbow.

As quoted by Car News China on Friday (4/19/2024), the price of the Zhidou Rainbow starts from 31,900 yuan or around Rp 71.8 million to 43,900 yuan or approximately Rp 989.8 million. From this price range, the entry-level variant of the Zhidou Rainbow is much cheaper compared to the 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 250 ABS SE.

Currently, the Kawasaki Ninja 250 ABS SE, based on the official Kawasaki Indonesia website, is sold at a price of Rp 79.9 million.

“As its name implies Rainbow, this electric car comes in colorful colors like a rainbow,” Car News China mentioned.

In terms of size, the Zhidou electric car is actually larger than the Wuling Air ev sold in Indonesia. The Zhidou Rainbow has dimensions of length 3,224 mm, width 1,515 mm, and height 1,630 mm. Meanwhile, the Wuling Air ev has dimensions of length 2,974 mm, width 1,505 mm, and height 1,631 mm.

Despite its compact size, the interior space of the Zhidou Rainbow looks cute with a pink background featuring a two-spoke steering wheel, a 5-inch full LCD instrument panel, and a 9-inch central control car screen. Physical knob-type buttons are retained under the central control screen.

Interestingly, the electric car comes with many advanced features. For example, remote vehicle control via mobile phone, remote vehicle unlocking, remote car search, scheduled battery charging, and feature updates via Over the Air (OTA) technology.

Additionally, Zhidou claims that there are more than 20 storage spaces throughout the interior. The standard trunk length is 390 mm, and the storage volume can be expanded to 1,034 liters by folding down the rear seats.

In terms of specifications, all variants of the Zhidou Rainbow are powered by a 20 kW/85 Nm or 30 kW/125 Nm electric motor. The batteries used are of the LFP type supplied by Guoxuan Hi-Tech. The battery pack is available in capacities of 9.98 kWh, 17.18 kWh, and 17.3 kWh, which correspond to a CLTC cruising range of 125 km, 205 km, and 201 km respectively.

Car News China stated that Zhidou is one of the old Chinese car brands that has been revived. They went bankrupt due to losing out to other brands.

Fortunately, they were then bought by Geely in October 2023 after completing their capital strategy reorganization. Now, Geely’s CEO, Gan Jiayue, serves as the chairman of the company. Along with Geely, Zhidou is poised to become a new giant in the Chinese electric car market.

“In the next three years, Zhidou plans to launch 8 models, and in the next 5 years, launch a total of 16 models,” Car News China emphasized.
