It turns out that Chery is also tempted by the Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) market in Indonesia. It turns out that they have secretly developed an MPV type car to compete in the fattest automotive segment in the country.
This fat market actually makes Chery need to be careful. The reason is that it is no longer a secret that in this segment there are already strong names. As a result, the competition will be very tight.
So like it or not, Chery needs a long time to ensure that the MPV products it produces suit people’s needs.
President Director of PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) Mr Shawn Xu said, currently Chery is known as a manufacturer of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) because it considers the market. Globally, SUVs are very popular, with SUVs accounting for more than 30 percent of the world automotive market share.
Shawn also sees market growth in Indonesia very rapidly. However, he admitted that MPV cars also have a very promising market. Because of this, Chery is currently studying the development of MPV cars.
“This is also what we are currently studying, for example the development of MPV, yes we are currently studying it, because as you mentioned MPV is the most popular,” said Shawn.
The MPV development study, said Shawn, is not only for Indonesia but also the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia. Because MPVs are also quite popular in Asian countries.
“I think the market for this product is very large.
Therefore, we have studied how to create an MPV suitable for that market. However, in my opinion, the resolution will still take quite a long time,” he said.
Of course, the question is whether Chery will present a new platform for the MPV car or whether it will bring an existing car.
Currently, Chery is synonymous with premium and quality SUV cars. It’s just that they have made several MPV cars such as the Chery Arrizo M7 and Chery Maxime.
It’s just that the design of the two MPV cars is very outdated when sold in the Indonesian market. Apart from that, Chery can also take advantage of other products under them, namely Karry.
It is known that Karry has a Karry K50 MPV car. It’s just that this car is too old to be presented now because it has been released since 2015.
So like it or not, Chery has to really develop a new MPV platform if it really wants to compete in the fattest segment in the national automotive market.
