PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) is really serious about making Indonesia an export base for right-hand drive electric cars. This was proven by signing a statement of intent or Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Directorate General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics Industry (Ditjen ILMATE), Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenperin).
The signing of this LoI was carried out by Qu Jizong, Executive Vice President of PT Chery Sales Indonesia and Hendro Martono, Director of Maritime Industry, Transportation Equipment and Defense Equipment, Monday (27/11/2023) yesterday.
From this statement, CSI is ready to make Indonesia a production center and export center for the development of environmentally friendly vehicles. In the future, CSI will gradually be able to introduce other environmentally friendly vehicles to support the government’s efforts to create cleaner and more environmentally friendly air.
“The signing of this LoI is a form of confirmation of Chery’s commitment to contribute to the Indonesian automotive industry, especially to support the acceleration of the formation of the Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle (KBLBB) ecosystem. We will carry out our commitment to invest through the production of electric vehicles in Indonesia and their distribution to right-hand drive countries ,” said Qu Jizong.
Previously, Qu Jizong also confirmed that Chery really wanted to build research and development (RND) facilities in Indonesia. One reason is that Indonesia has adopted right-hand drive cars.
He said that through research and development facilities in Indonesia, Chery will understand what right-hand drive cars will need.
“Currently, the research facilities we have in several other countries are not right-hand drive. We want the research facilities in Indonesia to focus on right-hand drive cars,” said Qu Jizong.
He further said that the presence of Chery’s research and development facilities in Indonesia would be proof that they wanted to do business in Indonesia for a long time.
“Because we want to do business here for a long time, we already have big plans here. “We also have plans to make RnD in Indonesia, we are confident in Chery’s future,” said Qu Jizong.
The RnD facility plan, continued Jizong, is one of the ongoing strategies after the Chinese brand has finished building a factory in Indonesia. Including the projection of making Indonesia the base for their right-hand drive products globally.
“We also want to export to other countries such as Australia and several other countries, this is our big plan for the future. “We are not only discussing with the Indonesian government, but also export destination countries,” he added.
He said Indonesia is an important country for Chery because it has a large area and the market continues to grow. Apart from launching new products, the company is also intensively building and expanding its after-sales network throughout the country.
