PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) has started assembling the Chery Omoda E5 electric car in Bekasi, West Java. To be precise, at the production facility owned by PT Handal Motor Indonesia (HMI).
The initial assembly process itself began on Saturday (2/12/2023). Where the factory owned by PT HMI has already assembled other Chery cars such as the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, and various variants of the Chery Omoda 5. So the Chery Omoda E5 is the fourth Chery model to be assembled at the HMI factory.
The Chery Omoda E5 assembly process in Bekasi actually presents many interesting facts. For example, the statement by Head of Brand PT CSI Rifki Setiawan in a discussion held by the Automotive Journalists Forum (Forwot), Sunday (3/12/2023) yesterday. He said that in the future Chery would make Indonesia a production base for right-hand drive by building a research center and its own factory in Indonesia.
“We also have the aim of building our own factory and research center in Indonesia and will make Indonesia a production base for right-hand drive,” said Rifki Setiawan.
Meanwhile, Vice President of PT CSI, Harry Kamora, said that the Chery Omoda E5 does not only meet domestic market demand. Chery Omoda E5 is confirmed to be sent to the export market.
He said the export of the Chery Omoda E5 had been agreed upon when the Chinese car company invited the Indonesian government to come to Chery’s headquarters in Anhui, China some time ago.
“I think exports will start in 2024 even though conditions are still CKD here because we already have all the requirements for export,” he explained.
One example of the export requirements that Harry Kamora refers to is certified security features. “This car already has five star NCAP safety certification. This is one of the security requirements of the destination country. Without it it will not be able to be exported,” explained Harry Kamora.
Meanwhile in the same place, Zhang Guibing, President of Chery International, said he was very satisfied with Chery’s performance in Indonesia. From there he was very confident in developing Chery’s potential in Indonesia starting from building a research center, building a factory and an export base.
“In Indonesia, Chery is experiencing a stable increase in terms of sales and customer satisfaction,” he stressed.
