BMW Claims to be The Market Leader in Indonesia’s Premium EV Segment

BMW Group Indonesia claims to be the market leader in the premium electric car segment in Indonesia. This statement was made by Jodie O’tania, Director of Communications BMW Group Indonesia at the opening of the BMW Group Electric Exhibition 2023, Thursday (2/11/2023) yesterday.

Jodie said that currently from January-September 2023, BMW controls the premium electric car market with 56.4 percent. This figure is very high compared to other competitors fighting in the same segment.

“In the premium electric vehicle market in Indonesia, BMW dominates the market with 56.4% market share compared to brands in its class (Gaikindo data YTD September 2023). “This shows how focused BMW is on electric vehicles,” he said.

He said this achievement was supported by sales of the BMW iX which reached 47 percent of the total sales of all BMW premium electric vehicles from January to September.

“This achievement is extraordinary, considering that the BMW iX only started being delivered to customers starting March this year,” he stressed.

In the same place, Bayu Riyanto, Director of Marketing at BMW Group Indonesia, said that the total market for luxury electric cars during January-September 2023 will reach 690 units. According to him, more than half of this is dominated by electric cars sold by BMW Group Indonesia.

“For the BMW brand, it is 389 units. MINI 85 units. Our competitor, whose name I cannot mention but has the Bintang logo, sold 104 units. Then, another one with the first letter “L” sold 112 units. “So, the total is 690 units,” explained Bayu Riyanto.

Predictably, the other brands he mentioned were Mercedes-Benz and Lexus. This is because Mercedes-Benz has a star symbol and Lexus is the only luxury car brand with the letter “L” which is a member of the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo).

It is known that currently,  BMW Group Indonesia sells three models of pure electric cars (battery electric vehicle/BEV) branded BMW, as well as one model electric car branded MINI. The details are BMW iX, BMW i4, BMW i7, plus MINI E. Apart from that, there is still one additional plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, namely the BMW XM.

On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz currently sells five electric cars, namely the Mercedes-Benz EQA, Mercedes-Benz EQB, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Mercedes-Benz EQE,  and Mercedes-Benz EQS Saloon.

Lexus actually has an abundance of choices for electrified vehicles. They provide pure electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid cars. Available models include the Lexus UX 300e, Lexus UX 250h Luxury, Lexus UX 250h F Sport, Lexus RZ 450e Luxury, Lexus RX 500h F Sport+, Lexus RX 450h+ Luxury, Lexus RX 350h Luxury, Lexus NX 350h Luxury, and Lexus NX 350h F Sport.
