Toyota finally officially released the luxury SUV made by them, the Toyota Century, this Wednesday (9/6/2023). The SUV is believed to disrupt the dominance of ultra-luxurious SUVs which are now held by many European manufacturers, such as the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga.
Simon Humphries, Toyota’s Chief Branding Officer in a live broadcast on the Toyota Global YouTube channel, today stated the reasons why they need to present the Toyota Century in the form of an ultra-luxurious SUV.
It was previously known that the Toyota Century was known as an ultra-luxury sedan which was only marketed in Japan. Now the car has been transformed into an ultra-luxury SUV like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga.
“Today’s customers have changed. New generations have entered the industry and they need new ways of working and thinking. This is when Century changed,” said Simon Humphries.
According to Simon Humphries, the current customers are very different from the customers who existed when the Toyota Century sedan was first made in 1967. Now they need an ultra-luxurious car that can not only be used for work but also to go to places they don’t want to. know.
“They want a car with ideal space for working but also for resting,” explains Simon Humphries.
From there, Toyota finally tried to offer a new concept from the Toyota Century in the form of an SUV. It’s just that they still maintain various distinctive elements that already exist in the Toyota Century sedan.
For example, the iconic design of the Toyota Century, which has not changed much in the SUV model. “The Century that we present today is the opening for the Century in the next century,” said Simon Humphries.
On that occasion, Simon Humphries said that there were many new things offered to consumers of the Toyota Century SUV model. Like consumers of ultra-luxurious cars, customers of the Toyota Century SUV model can do personalization.
They can choose the color according to their wishes. Also included are car doors that can be changed as desired.
“It can be made wide open as usual. A sliding door can also be made to make it more practical,” he said.
Toyota itself provides the official price of the Toyota Century SUV model at 25 million Yen or the equivalent of Rp. 2.5 billion. For a current picture, Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga have fantastic price tags.
Rolls-Royce Cullinan is sold at IDR 14.1 billion. Bentley Bentayga is in the price range of IDR 9.3 billion. Of course the offer made by the Toyota Century SUV is very attractive at a more reasonable price.
