Expansion of Battery Factory in Indonesia, Wuling Invests IDR 7 Trillion

Wuling Motors is set to build a battery factory in Indonesia. The presence of this battery factory will further complement Wuling’s facilities in the country, which already includes conventional and electric vehicle factories in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java.

The plan is for the Wuling battery factory to be built in the same area, but with stricter safety standards due to the high voltage involved in the battery production process.

“More than 500 million dollars, or around IDR 7.5 trillion. This is just the first phase. The batteries will still be sourced from Gotion, as our supplier,” said Wuling Motors Marketing Operation Director Liu Yan in North Jakarta on Friday (September 20, 2024).

Wuling plans to produce batteries in Indonesia, known as MAGIC Battery, by the end of this year. The name MAGIC Battery stands for various aspects applied to this battery.

“It starts with ‘M’ for Multifunction Unitized Structure Technology, ‘A’ for Advanced Cell Safety, ‘G’ for Greater Performance, ‘I’ for Intelligent Management, and ‘C’ stands for Combustion Free,” Liu Yan explained.

Wuling will also employ Multifunction Unitized Structure Technology (MUST), inspired by aircraft wing design. Generally, the structure, side panels, and cooling layers consist of three different components.

Additionally, this battery will feature advanced battery cells (Advanced Cell Safety) with improved structure and the use of ceramic layers as low thermal conductivity conductors, minimizing the risk of short circuits, leaks, water evaporation, and overheating.

“The enhanced performance aspects include power discharge, battery capacity usage, physical impedance, long battery cycle use, and high safety levels during operation, making MAGIC Battery more efficient, lighter, durable, high-performing, and safe,” Liu Yan concluded.
