Chery Recalls 420 Units of Omoda 5 in Indonesia Due to Potential Rear Axle Breakage

PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) has initiated a recall of 420 units of Chery Omoda 5. The recall is due to the potential breakage of the rear axle component in these compact SUVs.

In an official statement released on Monday (May 13, 2024), CSI conducted a thorough investigation into the Chery Omoda 5 following similar incidents that occurred in Malaysia. In the neighboring country, Chery recalled 600 units of the Chery Omoda 5 due to the same potential issue.

“Based on the findings of our investigation, such incidents are very rare. However, for safety reasons, we have identified 420 units of the OMODA 5 1.5T (Z and RZ) that may be affected in Indonesia,” stated the official CSI announcement.

As a precautionary measure, CSI has decided to contact potentially affected consumers to undergo inspections at the nearest Chery dealership.

The 420 affected units have been identified based on their vehicle identification numbers (VIN). If potential issues are found during the inspection, CSI will replace the parts at no cost to the owners.

CSI assures that this issue only applies to the 420 units of the OMODA 5 1.5 T (Z and RZ) and does not affect other Chery products.

“We are strongly committed to providing the best service and ensuring the safety of Chery product owners in Indonesia. This is done as part of our responsibility to ensure consumer safety, satisfaction, and trust,” added CSI.

Chery discovered that the rear axles were already worn out, which was traced back to one of its suppliers. “Although Chery recalled all Omoda 5 vehicles manufactured between August 14 and August 17, 2023, in Malaysia, Chery believes that only about 60 units may have experienced this issue,” reported Carscoops on Thursday (May 9, 2024).
