Autoevolution reported, Wednesday (24/4/2024), the technology company from China plans to make affordable electric cars in 2026. The price tag for the electric car is considered cheap because it is planned to be sold at a price of 150,000 yuan or the equivalent of IDR 336.09 million.
“The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan has been well received by the public. Xiami will continue this with an affordable electric car in 2026,” reported Autoevolution.
Xiaomi’s plan to make an affordable electric car is surprising. The reason is that providing cheap electric cars is still difficult for many world automotive companies to realize.
Tesla, led by Elon Musk, has even stopped plans for affordable electric cars. Initially, Tesla wanted to try offering electric cars at a price of US$ 25,000 or around Rp. 401.6 million.
It’s just that the challenges are very difficult because the availability of electric car production resources is still very expensive. As a result, they no longer continued with the plan.
“If Xiaomi succeeds in making a cheap electric car, they will once again show the world something very interesting. They beat Apple, which had ambitions to make an electric car that failed to come true. Now they are targeting Tesla, which has difficulty making a cheap electric car,” explained Autoevolution.
It is known that the price of cheap electric cars made by Xiaomi will be much lower than the price tag of the Xiaomi SU7. Currently the Xiaomi SU7 is sold in the price range of 215,900 yuan or around Rp. 474 million to 299,900 yuan or up to Rp. 658 million.
To date, there have been 100,000 orders for the Xiaomi SU7. The plan is that by the end of April the electric car will be sent to consumers.
From this fact, Xiaomi sees great potential for affordable electric cars. They really hope that the new model will make Xiaomi move even more expansively in the world automotive market.
