The discourse on the revival of the Mitsubishi Pajero is increasingly open. Mitsubishi is rumored to be using the Mitsubishi Outlander platform as a development base.
Drive reported, Tuesday (30/1/2024), this plan erased many people’s suspicions that the Mitsubishi Pajero would again carry the same concept when it was first introduced in 1981, namely a ladder frame SUV. In fact, this car will actually carry a monocoque SUV concept like the one used by the Mitsubishi Outlander, especially the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
“Allegations that the Mitsubishi Pajero will take the platform from its sister alliance, the Nissan Patrol, have finally been closed. The car will use the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV chassis,” wrote Drive.
Mitsubishi really wants to change the concept of the car to make it more luxurious. They are trying to align this legendary SUV with top SUVs such as the Land Rover Range Rover.
Moreover, currently Mitsubishi already has a ladder frame SUV which is very popular in Southeast Asia such as Indonesia, namely the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
“Mitsubishi wants to make people know the Mitsubishi Pajero as the Range Rover from Japan,” explained Drive.
Even though the details have not been officially released, it is strongly suspected that Mitsubishi will not prepare a new engine for the car. It is possible that the SUV will use the engine used by the Mitsubishi Outlander, namely a 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine.
The engine will most likely be equipped with a turbocharger or supercharger to increase performance. This also includes a hybrid engine option.
Meanwhile, the Bestcarweb site states that the Pajero will officially debut in 2027. This SUV will not only be sold in Japan but also in the global market.
