BYD’s Official Entry: Essential Insights for You in Indonesia

BYD’s Official Entry finally formalized their presence in Indonesia, Thursday (18/1/2024). At this event they brought three electric cars at once, namely BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal and BYD Dolphin.

Apart from presenting three electric cars, BYD is also committed to building manufacturing facilities by 2024. Not only that, the electric car company that just beat TEsla promises to build an electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia in the long term.

BYD views Indonesia as a country that is active in adopting trends, including campaigns to reduce emissions by using electric vehicles. The Indonesian government is also considered very responsive in supporting this development with regulations issued.

“We see this as a positive thing and with the technological innovation that we have,” emphasized Eagle Zhao, President Director of BYD Motor Indonesia.

So what can be learned and known from the inauguration of BYD’s presence in Indonesia? The following include:

BYD's Official Entry: Essential Insights for You in Indonesia

1. Investment IDR 20.3 trillion

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the investment value of the Chinese automotive giant Build Your Dream (BYD) in Indonesia reached USD 1.3 billion or the equivalent of IDR 20.33 trillion. This was revealed by Airlangga through a video of his remarks at the official launch of the BYD brand.

This figure is very large because as an illustration, Wuling Motors, which had already existed in Indonesia, was the first to arrive and already had a factory in Indonesia, disbursing an investment of USD 700 million or at that time around IDR 9.3 trillion.

So you could say that the investment made by BYD is the largest compared to other Chinese car companies entering Indonesia.

2. Manufacturing Facilities Built This Year

Eagle Zhao said that BYD’s manufacturing facility in Indonesia will be built in 2024. The production capacity of this facility is targeted at 150,000 units per year.

Unfortunately it is not stated where the factory will be built. In general, car manufacturers in Indonesia set up manufacturing facilities in the Bekasi Regency area. BYD could build this facility at that location.

3. Set up a Network of 50 Dealers

Currently BYD only has seven dealers. It’s just that by the end of the year there are targeted to be 50 dealers ready to serve consumers who want to own a BYD electric car.

4. CBU Scheme and Electric Car Prices Have Not Been Announced

BYD cars are actually produced in Thailand. It’s just that for the Indonesian market, the three electric cars presented, namely the BYD Seal, BYD Atto 3 and BYD Dolphin, were brought intact from China.

Unfortunately, the official prices for the three electric cars have not been announced. But if you are interested, BYD already open  the booking order.
